What’s the problem with a missing tooth?

We understand the implications a missing tooth can have to your health and would always advise replacing missing teeth for your long term health. A missing tooth can cause other teeth to move, limit what you can eat effectively, be unsightly making you self-conscious and cause you to lose bone making your face “sink in”.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a small metal post that is used to replace the root of your missing tooth. Once placed in the jaw, the implant can be used to support your new tooth. The tooth will look, feel and function like to healthy natural tooth.

What are the benefits of an implant?

A dental implant will provide you with the closest replacement to your missing tooth. It will look, feel and behave like a normal tooth, allowing you to smile and socialise with confidence and to eat all the foods you would like. It is also completely independent of your own teeth, and so doesn't interfere with them, and with simple maintenance should last you a lifetime. A dental implant will also 'preserve' the bone in the jaw, preventing your face and cheeks from "sinking in".

How long does it take?

Placing a dental implant is a small procedure peformed under local anaesthetic that takes around 30 minutes (IV sedation is available if needed). It is normally left under the gum for at least 8-10 weeks before your new tooth is attached to it.

5 Year Comprehensive Guarantee

At Sutton Dental & Implant Clinic we are focused on providing natural and long lasting solutions. To allow us to achieve this we only use the best products that have been extensively researched along with the latest technologies available to ensure precision at all times.

With this we can include a comprehensive five-year guarantee on all our dental implants and with a combined 40 years of experience in dental implants you are in safe hands.

What are the alternative options?

A bridge is an alternative fixed option that can look quite natural and where very popular in the 1980's and 1990's. It would involve preparing “drilling” the teeth either side of the missing tooth, as they are used to support the missing tooth. This allows us to “bridge” the gap. Bridges can work very well, but often at the sacrifice of your adjacent teeth. They are likely to last 10-12 years before they will need replacing.

Dentures “false teeth” are the final option. These can be made from acrylic or metal, and are designed to be removable so you can remove them for cleaning and sleeping (you should not sleep with a denture in). This is often the simpliest option to replacing a missing tooth but as it is removable they are often the least desirable. We would expect a denture to last 5-7 years before it needs replacing due to the continuous loss of bone in the area.

"I have recently started the process to have dental implants. I’m halfway through that, the care and attention and professionalism that I have received is second to none. Every step is explained. If anyone was thinking of routine or extensive dental work, you would not be in better hands."
